A
SHORT HISTORY OF THE WEDDING RING
The tradition of the wedding ring
or betrothal ring dates from early times - there are examples
of iron Roman betrothal rings, 2nd century BC, although the wedding
ring, as a separate ring, was not used at that stage, but the
betrothal ring would also be used at the wedding. It is impossible
to define when it became the common practice to have a separate
wedding ring, but it would appear likely to have begun in England
in late medieval times. The tradition of wearing a wedding ring
on the third finger of the left hand probably derived from Egyptian
times. They believed that a vein ran through this finger directly
to the heart and your love.
TYPES
The most important factor to consider
when choosing a wedding band is the style of your engagement ring.
As the two are usually worn together, it is essential that they
complement one another and fit well together.
This means the ring can be hand
made in our workshop to fit the engagement ring - stones can be
added if desired., or picked from one of our ready made wedding
rings in all the usual designs.
We have a great selection of wedders
for ladies and men incorporating different colours of gold and
different designs from modern to traditional.
We have our own hand engravers to
add that special touch of names, dates or sentimental words.
ETERNITY RINGS
The eternity ring traditionally
is added after a couple have been married for some years. Quite
often it's bought after the birth of a first baby.
